Chalice Circles

Chalice Circles are our small group ministry program. Our purpose is to build community, learn to minister with one another, and nourish our spiritual lives.

A Chalice Circle (also known as Covenant Group) is a small group (6-10 people) that meets for the sharing of personal views, accompanied by meditation, readings, and ritual. Participants may choose to discuss spiritual issues, social concerns, and the Unitarian Universalist Principles. The circle is meant to be a comfortable setting for deep listening and making connections across diversity.

Circle Dinners

Circle Dinners are a great way to foster community building at UUSM.

Circle Dinners is a series of 4 potluck dinners, in changing groups of 8, in homes, with good food and stimulating conversation. Participants enjoy an opportunity to get better acquainted with other UUSM members and friends in a relaxed atmosphere.

Circle Dinners usually occur during the first four months of the year.  Contact the coordinators for more information.

Women's Potluck

Women’s Potluck gives UUSM’s women an opportunity to enjoy the fellowship of getting together to share food, stories, exchange books and just generally have a good time.

Women’s Potluck provides a venue whereby the women of UUSM have an opportunity to get to know each other and develop or strengthen friendships. We meet on the first Monday of each month at 6:00 pm in Beck Hall. Our primary activity is socializing and sharing potluck dinners.  Our gatherings are mostly unstructured.

Men's BBQ Nights

Men’s BBQ Nights gives UUSM’s male members and friends an opportunity to socialize, share ideas and discuss current topics with other men, by way of a monthly dinner meeting and discussion.

We meet on the third Thursday of each month from 6:00-8:00 pm. Each person is asked to bring food to bar-b-que (or microwave) and a beverage; salad, bread, dessert are provided.

The group not only provides a social outlet, but also responds to needs of the church.

Walkie Talkies

Walking and companionship are activities that promote health and well being; two indispensable ingredients that nurture the soul.

Walkie Talkies is an unstructured group of UUSM members who enjoy camaraderie and nature. We simply walk and talk. Conversations are usually about anything that happens to comes up.

We meet twice a month at 9:00 am on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at the Ryder Park playground parking lot on East Third Avenue in San Mateo.

Our walks usually last about one and a half hours and sometimes we go for coffee afterwards.

The waterfront walk is a beautiful, very changing experience. We enjoy each other’s company in addition to the migrating birds, colorful foliage, awesome cloud formations, changing tide patterns and activity on the bay.
