A Letter from the Board President, Nov. 23, 2014
Rev. Ben, visiting his colleague from the Pilgrim Baptist Church, in our neighborhood, discovered that this church is for sale with a moving date in 2016.
It is impossible not to see this as an opportunity that we need to take very seriously.
So, we will study it. And very seriously!
As a beginning and because we don’t want to see it sold to someone else before we make any decision, the Officers of the Board, without delay, unanimously decided to sign a letter of intent that will morally (no money involved) tie both parties, the Pilgrim Baptist Church and UUSM. Nothing more. However, nothing less than saying that we will not break this agreement to sale/purchase to each other without very good reasons and notice to the other congregation.
This is a very good beginning!
Now we have time to clarify (plenty of time, actually, because they can’t move quickly) what we really need and want and find out if this facility is answering our needs.
) and a notebook in Beck hall in order to receive any comment, suggestion, question or concern from our members and friends.
In a few months, when we will be ready, we will invite the congregation to a dedicated meeting and present all the elements we have. We will open the conversation, answer the questions and listen to the concerns. After a time of reflection, of, at least, a few weeks, we will bring the congregation together again for a vote about the purchase of the building.
I want to thank our minister, Ben, and the Finance Committee, particularly Gail Ewing's diligence, for having made that opportunity a reality.
