Learning ...about our faith & the world
We have a cohesive and engaging lifespan religious education program, which inspires us to understand Unitarian Universalism, to nurture our spiritual growth and identity, to live in accordance with Unitarian Universalist principles, and to develop our leadership abilities.
Our religious education program attracts and serves the greater community.
Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo
value our children and youth. We understand that religious
education begins with the family. We strive to support parents
and assist children and youth in their personal search for truth and
meaning.
We offer a rich and unique Religious Education program. Children and
youth have the opportunity to question and learn, to worship, to engage
in service projects to benefit our community, and to participate in
activities that promote friendship with peers and adults.
A Coming of Age program is offered to our youth in 8th through 10th grade every other
year. This program pairs youth with adult mentors; offers retreats that foster
self-awareness and confidence-building, opportunities for service to the church and
community and culminates with an affirmation ceremony. Coming of Age alternates with the Our Whole Lives (OWL) curriculum. OWL is offered to those youth in 7th to 9th grade and equips participants with
accurate, age-appropriate information in human development,
relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and
society and culture.
All adults, parents and non-parents alike, are encouraged to
participate in our Adult RE programs. We provide
opportunities to learn more about Unitarian Universalism, spiritual
practice and personal theology, along with a variety of other topics
such as current events and world religions.
We welcome and encourage you to participate fully in our Religious
Education programs.
