Kathy van Leuwen
grew up in Connecticut, where she regularly attended a United Methodist
Church. She studied at Georgetown University in Washington, DC and
completed Masters’ Degrees in Social Welfare and Public Health at U.C.
Berkeley. Her career has had one focus: helping communities meet the
needs of their families and families meet the needs of their children.
Kathy and her partner, Bob Young, have two children, Ryan, age 12 and
Ellie, age 9.

Shawn Reifschneider has been directing church music since 1994. He has been the music director for
Lutheran, Messianic Jewish, Baptist, and United Methodist congregations before
“coming home” to UUSM.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from California State University in
Hayward, double majoring in Vocal Performance and Business Administration.
He went on to pursue further study in
Music and Worship, earning his Master of Divinity degree at Portland, Oregon’s
Western Seminary.
In addition to
church music ministry, Shawn has been teaching in the San Mateo Union High
School District since 2000. He has
taught instrumental music, vocal music, musical theater, and computer application
classes. He currently teaches
choral music at both San Mateo High School and Burlingame High School. Shawn
has also been a guest conductor and adjudicator for festivals and summer music
camps.

Glenn Ricafrente grew up in the Philippines
and moved to the US in 1994. He has worked mainly in the public
information and non-profit fields. Aside from working for UUSM, Glenn
is the Association Manager of an educational non-profit that
disseminates information on dyslexia.
