Social Justice Council

The Social Justice Council of the Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo supports the work of social justice in our congregation, our communities, and beyond. The reach of the congregation extends as far as the Philippines where we have a partner church and extends worldwide through the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee

Social Justice Council Mission Statement. The Social Justice Council leads, organizes, educates, and inspires the congregation to fulfill our Acting Purpose through the creation of justice-making opportunities that are accessible to people of all ages and physical abilities. The Council works with both UUSM-led projects and external social justice organizations and collaborates with ministers, staff, lay leaders, and congregants to carry out social actions in the UUSM community and beyond.

Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where the people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free.

Social Justice Sunday is on the 3rd Sunday of every month.  During coffee hour, the Social Justice Council displays many of the projects and organizations that the congregation supports. Here you can find opportunities to help others and serve our community. The Council connects with lay leaders in the congregation who volunteer to be advocates or cheerleaders for the organizations we support.

The Social Justice Council meets after the second service on the third Sunday of the month. Please join us for one or more of our meetings.
