UU Sources for Children

The living tradition we share draws from many sources:

  • the sense of wonder we all share
  • women and men long ago and today – people whose lives remind us to be kind and fair
  • the ethical and spiritual wisdom of the world’s religions
  • Christian and Jewish teachings which tell us to love all others as we love ourselves
  • the use of reason and the discoveries of science
  • the harmony of nature and the sacred circle of life

In addition, our children express the meaning of our faith tradition using these Rainbow Principles:

  • Respect all beings
  • Offer fair and kind treatment to all
  • Yearn to learn
  • Grow in spirit and mind
  • Believe in my ideas and act on them
  • Insist on peace, freedom, and in justice for all
  • Value the connections in creation

If the past cannot teach the present and the father cannot teach the son, then history need not have bothered to go on, and the world has wasted a great deal of time.
